I know that this isn’t that we would normally post, but the shootings and terrorist attacks in Paris is something that has been weighing heavily on my mind. I heard about it as I was at school, and I was trying to lift after class I could barely focus, my mind was just in turmoil about what was going on over in France. To say the least, as I am writing this now I still don’t know what’s going on, I don’t even know who does, other than the fact that over a hundred people were killed by a series of orchestrated attacks by a bunch of cowards. (Update: Over 120 people killed. It’s messed up).
All I can think is, what is happening to this world? What kind of place are we headed where some depraved human can take the life of another and think that it is perfectly justified? As a company, Local was formed on the concept of a family that shared a common vision for fitness and betterment of the individual through selfless and impactable action. Basically, we all want to be better versions of ourselves, and we want to help you become better than who you were yesterday, as I mentioned before. Change the world for the better, it’s a motive that I believe every human humbly holds in their heart.
I don’t know much about religion or politics or anything that is going on in general in regards to the Middle East. I just don’t want to say my opinion on such a tumultuous era over there because I don’t want to sound ignorant, but one thing I do believe, is that all lives matter. That they are all sacred and something to be cherished. There have been arguments on social media just going back and forth like cats and dogs, keyboard warriors fighting over thing like “what about #prayforBeirut? What about all the other killings going on?”
Such is the nature of media. Both are equally tragic, Paris is just more well known and the nature of the attacks was just shocking. That doesn't mean that one takes priority over the other, that’s just the way the media works. We all feel the same sorrow for victims of any attack. But in a world where these attacks are becoming increasingly more and more common, we as a community should stand together and show our strength against such adversity. It’s not just Paris, but the world we pray for.
When I sit here and hear all these stories, I want to just take a rocket ship and fly to Mars with nothing but a G-Eazy mix-tape. Then I hear the stories of people coming together, showing their support for those hurt. That humans, though there are bad apples, can do good things. I guess this is why I’m writing this, to show that even if you think humanity is going to shit, there will still be one person who still believes that things can be better.
Humans, I hope to believe, are good. That we have morals that provides us for the capacity to love each other and hope to see that others are loved. What I hate, are these extremists that cheer as they behead innocent civilians and take pleasure from seeing the destruction and wayward path that they are on. That is not an accurate representation of humanity.
The picture that we have featured is from a satellite built by a college student, a fucking freshman (a freshman!) at Boulder whose team of engineers was able to send something into space (@sheridanbrooke_). It shows how tiny we are, how we’re all just one people, living on a planet in a universe so incomprehensibly large. Looking from such a view, it’s easy to forget that differences separate us. And at all the destruction going on in the world right now, it’s also easy to forget the best that humanity has to offer. When you see news of nutjobs trying to tear the world apart, it’s nice to know that there are still people, especially those in our generation (the good for nothing lazy millennials) with passion for exploration into space and the drive to push humanity into a new era. People, who like us, wish to dedicate, motivate and accelerate. I like to think that if there is one bastard who wants to tear down a home, there will be millions more who will help rebuild it.
Because though hate may seem to be the strongest feeling in this time, it is love and passion for a greater vision that can truly mend the broken cracks that history has wrought upon all of us. We as humans can do amazing things, and even with all these idiots with no regard for human life running around, it's best that we never forget that.
